Sunset Station District Master Plan Goody Clancy Planning Urban Design

Zachry Realty, San Antonio, TX

Sparking renewal of San Antonio’s Sunset Station District

A former industrial site named for an historic rail station now serving as an event facility, the Sunset Station District is divided from local destinations by a highway. Though the district offers close proximity to downtown, the San Antonio Riverwalk, and the Alamo, previous efforts to redevelop the area as an entertainment district had floundered. Goody Clancy’s master plan and site redevelopment strategy for the area recast the Sunset Station District as a neighborhood of homes, businesses, public spaces, and entertainment venues.

Documented in a concise, visually compelling brochure used to publicize plan concepts to a larger audience of implementation partners, the Sunset Station District plan:

  • Uncovered potential for up 2,500 new housing units and over 1 million SF of hotel and/or office space that would anchor the Sunset Station District as a lively, 24/7 neighborhood
  • Reflects a shared and viable vision for the area, developed during a charrette that equipped downtown stakeholders with an understanding of market and demographic trends
