Planning for change that benefits everyone in a diverse metro neighborhood

The racially and economically diverse Braddock neighborhood needed a vision, a redevelopment framework, and community-backed strategies for managing significant development near the Braddock Road Metro Station. Goody Clancy established a new start for a stalled planning process and created a broadly endorsed plan for guiding future development: the Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan.

Goody Clancy also created a redevelopment plan for 365 units of aging public housing on four neighborhood sites. The Braddock East Plan outlined a strategy for development of quality mixed-income transit-oriented housing without any loss in the number of affordable units.

Core elements of the plans included:

  • Creating a sense of place, neighborhood identity, vitality, and diversity
  • Providing walkable neighborhoods that are secure and safe
  • Establishing a variety of community-serving, usable open spaces
  • Encouraging community-serving retail and services
