Reclaiming waterfronts as centers of community life
Communities large and small are reclaiming urban waterfronts to become special public places—drawing people together, expanding public access, reconnecting to the natural environment, and increasing economic competitiveness. Our plans explore how transformed waterfronts can provide benefits that extend well beyond the water’s edge, serving as catalysts for wider community renewal.
Our work includes:
- Downtown waterfronts that have the potential to become the next great places in their communities
- Mixed-use development where new housing, workplaces, retail, and restaurants are combined with improved public access and amenities, marinas, and water transportation
- Parkland, beaches, and other public recreation places that can play a larger role as community amenities
