Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH

Completing a residential village with an athletics field house

This two-story building is the final component of a multi-building, residential and athletic village completed by Goody Clancy in 2005. Comprising a multifunctional varsity club suitable for events, dinners and coaching, along with a weight area and a fitness room for non-varsity athletes, the center completes the north end of the field. Its massing and materials continue the vocabulary of the village and reinforce the curve of the running track. Adjacent site development supports the building’s use by Case teams and visiting athletes as well as alumni visitors.

We originally conceived the center’s design in 2001 in tandem with the residential village, though it remained unbuilt until a donor offered to fund its construction. The final design evolved from its inception, carrying forward the initial design intent and adapting it to the present-day program needs.
