Lakeside Dining Hall

Elon University, Elon, NC
Inviting, global-themed dining facility forms important, new campus spaces
We designed a major new dining facility that creates a signature indoor gathering space, while extending Elon’s neo-Georgian architectural vocabulary. The project was the first phase of a plan to replace outmoded residential and dining facilities in the northern part of campus.
The design treats the new construction as an expansion of the adjacent two-story student center.
- The Lakeside Dining Hall provides seating for 220 in a grand, multi-story, vaulted space—unique on campus—as well as private dining and a second-floor conference center.
- The design included the creation of a significant new campus gathering space overlooking Lake Mary Nell, highlighted by a “Speakers Corner” that embodies the global theme of the village.
- We also programmed and planned a multi-building Living and Learning residential complex to replace several older residences just north of the Lakeside Dining Hall. That portion of the precinct plan is being carried forward on a separate track.
