Ohio State University Columbus High Street Plan Planning Urban Design Goody Clancy

The Ohio State University and Campus Partners for Community Urban Redevelopment, Columbus, OH

Bringing new life to Columbus’s “Main Street” and the gateway to OSU

The Ohio State University has long worked to spark neighborhood revitalization and community development near OSU’s flagship campus in Columbus. Working with the university and Campus Partners, a nonprofit collaboration between the university and the City of Columbus, Goody Clancy led development of a plan that has transformed a 2.5-mile stretch of High Street into a vibrant, mixed-use street and an inviting gateway for the university.

Since its completion, the master plan has led to:

  • More than $100 million in mixed-use investment along 2.5 miles of High Street, including more than 1,000 units of mixed-income housing
  • Development of the South Campus Gateway, a 550,000 SF mixed-use center featuring a popular public square, shops, an independent cinema, restaurants, office space, and an “arts walk”
  • A 1,200-car parking garage wrapped with rental housing, at a scale and character that blend with the district
  • Creation of a lively mixed-use district shared by the OSU community and its neighbors along what was once an underutilized and unfriendly street
