Lisa Ferreira on the Post-Pandemic Residence Hall

Lisa Ferreira, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Goody Clancy’s Student Life Practice Leader, has written an article examining the long- and short-term implications of the Covid-19 pandemic for residence hall design.

Lisa reminds us that “too frequently…an immediate response to a disruptive event can lead us to adopt solutions that, in retrospect, were an overreaction that did little to improve safety or quality of life.” At the same time, we will need to address the specific period of time when students make their post-quarantine return to campus: “In those first precarious days, weeks, and months…schools will have to help students understand how to keep each other safe as well as help them perceive their own safety.”

Lisa is conducting a three-minute survey to help us develop a better understanding of what will help students and their parents perceive safety in their residence halls.
