OVERVIEW:

Goody Clancy seeks a Building Science Architect/Specialist to join our Boston-based practice working with higher-education clients on a variety of new-construction, renovation/addition, and preservation projects. Our practice areas – Science & Technology, Student Life, Business and Professional Schools, and Regenerative Renewal – offer a range of experiences and many opportunities for growth. The purpose of this role is to expand the firm’s leadership in sustainability by working across the practice to implement data-driven, climate responsive design by: identifying key performance opportunities within each project depending on its phase, advising on analysis and exploration to inform design outcomes, performing and/or working with team members to perform analytics across a range of climate measures, and working with teams to integrate building science knowledge and analysis findings into the design. While this role is expected to primarily support project teams on building science and climate analyses, some time will also be spent on architectural design, coordination, and documentation. The best candidate for this position will be passionate about designing for a positive climate impact and have qualifications as both an architect and building scientist with versatility to work in both areas of specialty. We are looking for creative, friendly, motivated and collaborative professionals who are actively engaged in ongoing learning and involved in the community outside the office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports Director of Sustainability and Climate Action in accelerating data-driven design practices
  • Collaborates with project teams to identify key performance drivers in design, perform relevant analyses, and work with the team to incorporate results into the design process
  • Performs simulations to model energy use, daylight, thermal performance, occupant comfort, life cycle assessment, and other performance attributes
  • Coordinates with consultants related to building performance
  • Lead or support practice-based research on building science topics
  • Develops resources for internal education about building performance
  • Trains architecture staff on building science principals and design tools  
  • Collaborates with project team to develop design content and documentation at all phases

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Professional architecture and/or building science degree; architectural registration is a plus
  • Interest in existing buildings and energy retrofits as well as new construction
  • Collaborative and flexible approach to team assignments
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and building simulation software
  • Excellence in design, organization and communications
