King’s Chapel
The Society of King’s Chapel
Boston, Massachusetts
Designed by Peter Harrison in 1749, King’s Chapel is a true icon of American architectural history and one of the most important surviving examples of ecclesiastical Georgian architecture in the nation. Built on the site of an original 17th-century Anglican chapel that served British officers, the Chapel is constructed of dark Quincy granite and features a wood colonnade of Ionic columns. Goody Clancy led a comprehensive study and analysis of the Chapel and its site.
Relevant Project Information:
- Drawing on our technical knowledge of historic sites and churches, Goody Clancy and our team produced:
- A Historic Structures Report, based in part on archival research, which established a building chronology and relative significance, and offered a paint analysis.
- A Conditions Assessment Report, which evaluated building systems, offered a structural review, identified furniture and conservation work, and provided a prioritized list of repairs.
- A Master Plan that included conceptual design studies, acoustic and lighting solutions, system and building solutions, and phasing plan.
