At a young age, Ben was inspired by how buildings could shape a city as he drew his own versions of Richard Scarry towns, biked New England streets, or arrived in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal. This interest, plus a love of drawing, facility with numbers, and ambition to achieve social and cultural benefits, led him to architecture and urbanism.

As a principal at Goody Clancy, Ben helps clients design plans and facilities across different scales that advance their mission while anticipating the future. He is especially skilled at integrating a wide range of factors and bringing the resulting plan to life by illustrating its vision for change. Together with clients, Ben focuses on getting the most out of their building portfolio, creating accessible and inclusive places that enhance climate resilience.

The most rewarding part of this work for Ben is seeing communities find a welcoming home on campus. This effort shows in his work on the campus planning for the New England Conservatory of Music, a mixed-use student life and performance building with people-friendly streets; the Boston College Lower Campus Master Plan; and the Drexel University Campus Plan.

Ben is a runner and loves to explore an institution by jogging through its campus. When he’s not improving campuses and cityscapes, Ben enjoys riding trains or tracking lost ones. His most exhilarating ride to date was on the Cuzco-Machu Picchu in Peru.

After more than two decades at Goody Clancy, I’m still most excited about our consistent commitment to top quality design that looks beyond the individual building or campus to deliver long-term value to its community, its neighbors, and the world.
