Mary Means Joins Goody Clancy

Goody Clancy is delighted to announce that Mary Means has joined the firm as Director of Community Initiatives. Her national leadership in revitalizing communities, breathing new life into historic environments, and building community capacity complements our award-winning planning and urban design practice.

Following her tenure as Vice President of the National Trust for Historic Preservation—where she led the team that launched the national Main Street movement—Mary spent a year as a Loeb Fellow at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. She then established Mary Means + Associates, Inc., a consultancy that brought her a wide variety of assignments for communities, public agencies, foundations, and institutions across the country. During this period Goody Clancy began a collaborative relationship with Mary, producing such projects as the first urban design guidelines for the area around Atlanta’s Emory University; a plan for mixed-income neighborhoods that will replace public housing near a Metro station in Alexandria, Virginia; and a smart-growth–inspired comprehensive plan for fast-growing Tyler, Texas.

We welcome Mary and the strengths she adds to our planning and urban design team as we work with communities of all sizes to address challenges and manage change in a spirit of innovation, collaboration, and design excellence.

With an office in Alexandria, Virginia, Mary provides Goody Clancy with a higher-profile presence in the Washington area.
