John W. McCormack Post Office and Courthouse Officially Reopens
On April 22, 2010, the John W. McCormack Post Office and Courthouse was officially reopened. Goody Clancy worked with the GSA and the building’s major occupant, the EPA, in preserving the building’s historic features while showcasing it as a model of energy efficiency and sustainable design for future projects. The 607,000 gsf renovation project was a complete renovation that removed all mechanical and electrical components of the original building but reused nearly all of the original structure. Anticipated to receive LEED GOLD certification, this will be the first federally owned property in the New England Region to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places with a gold certification. In his remarks, Glenn Rotondo, Acting Regional Administrator for the GSA, said “For a number of years, I have referred to the McCormack POCH as the Grand Old Lady. As you can see, we truly have transformed her into a modern woman. She is a tribute to the past and a gem for the present and future.”
