J. Michael Ruane Judicial Center
Salem, Massachusetts
Goody Clancy designed the new 195,000 SF trial court building to accommodate the Superior Court, District Court, Juvenile Court and Housing Court. The new facility, together with the neighboring historic courthouse which will be renovated in a later project, creates a court campus providing a convenient one-stop location for users and opportunities for shared efficiencies for the Trial Court.
Certified LEED Gold
Relevant Project information:
- The site was assembled through the acquisition of several parcels of land and buildings (the First Baptist Church on Federal Street, three residential properties on Federal Street and land previously used for vehicular access via ramps between North Street and Bridge Street).
- The site is located in an historic district and involved preservation and reuse of the existing historic buildings, the Essex County Probate Court and Registry of Deeds Building (1912) and of the First Baptist Church (1806).
- The New Trial Courts building is an appropriately scaled civic building with a presence on Federal Street. It incorporates the First Baptist Church for use as a Law Library.
