Institute for Human Performance
SUNY Upstate Medical University
Syracuse, New YorkGoody Clancy is designing a $55 million addition to the Institute for Human Performance, a 200,000 SF building completed on the SUNY Upstate Medical University campus in 1999. The original building houses medical research, rehabilitation and clinical programs using human subjects. Evolving needs and changing research emphases over the intervening years led to SUNY Upstate’s decision explore expansion possibilities onto the adjacent parking lot.
Relevant Project information:
- Our design for the expansion comprises approximately 60,000 SF of wet and dry labs focused on diseases of the nervous system
- Includes a 30,000 SF vivarium and imaging center, stacked above a level of parking
- To better serve the vivarium, we are also incorporating a new loading dock and rearranging some of the program in the original building
- A dedicated testing area, 50-station computer lab, break-out rooms, a communication skills center, a distance learning center, faculty offices, and space for student organizations and parking will be also be designed
- The building will be wireless throughout
- Classrooms will offer multi-media, two screens and a computer at every modem. A Trading Center with access to Bloomberg, CNN etc., ticker, monitors and equity and commodity boards will also be developed.
