Olin Hall
Babson College
Wellesley, MassachusettsThis 78,000 SF building provides a home for Babson’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business, which was formerly scattered in several buildings. The facility fits comfortably with its neighbors while projecting a progressive, memorable image consistent with Babson's new business curriculum.
Relevant Project Information:- The four-story building fits the surrounding neo-Georgian campus while projecting a distinct identity for the college’s new graduate business curriculum.
- The graduate program, organized around “modules,” required sophisticated interactive teaching spaces for groups of 60 to 100 students with flexible team rooms for study groups of 6 to 8.
- After Olin Hall opened in 1996, contributions from graduating alumni spiked from $11,000 per year to $127,000 (as reported in Chronicle for Higher Education).
- The building contains a “hatchery” for fledgling student businesses -- part of the school’s renowned entrepreneurial studies program.
Sustainable Design:
- Skylit atrium provides daylighting at the building’s core
- Roof overhangs shade windows
